About Me
Born into a family of bankers and growing up with numbers, the child in me was always fascinated by the intangible factors and was drawn towards creativity and nature. I dabbled at drawing, painting, ikebana with a fair share of success in regional contests. Intrigued by the wonders of human biology, I got consumed into learning this enchanting science for 15 long years. The journey culminated into what I am today – a successful interventional Cardiologist working for a corporate hospitalin Bangalore. This is what I do best- mending hearts!! Poetic though this may sound, the ground reality is far from being rosy. Work is hectic and stressful dealing with emergencies involving life & death situations on a daily basis. While I was busy resuscitating arrested hearts, the artist in me was also getting revived. My constant companion in all the vacations that I earned for myself was my camera. Capturing the beauty of nature is a task close to impossible even with the best of technology. I started with landscape and bird photography, and moved on to flower and macro photography. Over a period of time I have developed it into art photography with abstraction and my photographs look like paintings. My pictures tell a story, some carry a message. Exuberant and full of life, they strike a chord with everyone. Many have shared with me the feeling of serenity, divinity and expansiveness that they impart on the viewer. I use it as a medium for communication, showcasing nature and its beauty. Through my prints and merchandise, I invite you to get stories of nature into your life and home. New prints are released regularly, so check back often. If you sign up for updates, you will get notified about new prints, sales, and shows.
Photography and Me
Photography started as a retreat from my busy challenging schedule when I got my first digital camera in 2006. Diversion evolved into passion and paved the way to serious photography in the year 2013 when I got to lay hands on my first DSLR. I started with bird photography, which I still do. Thereon, my interest turned towards Macro & Landscapes.
Nature is opulence personified in all its grandeur. When one looks through the macro lens, there is a whole big beautiful world out there. The scrupulous precision and detailing in creation is oft missed by the inattentive eye. My intent with macro photography is to showcase this beauty to the world. Flowers, by nature of their easy accessibility and vast variety, were the obvious first choice as macro subjects. The proximity of Lalbagh Botanical Garden facilitated my visits to the much acclaimed Lalbagh Flower Shows that happen twice a year in Bangalore, my hometown. I was fascinated by the diversity of these flowers and the beauty in them.
Taking time off from the hospital critical care scene is tough. I plan my travel meticulously to places that hold this attraction for me. I did an Orchid photo shoot in Singapore gardens, and photographed the immensely enticing Tulips at Keukenhof gardens, Amsterdam. It takes a lot of effort and time to capture the beauty, often spending hours in front of the computer in post processing these wonderful images.
The saying goes… “Every now and then a man’s mind is stretched by a new idea or sensation, and never shrinks back to its former dimensions”. This, I believe, is the process of evolution. Following this very natural curve, I started experimenting with abstraction. Long hours of work with post-processing the photographs, transforms them immensely. Often people mistake them to be paintings and complement me saying, “You have a good collection of paintings” .
I had my first one man show of art photography in March 2017 at Reves art gallery. It was well received by art lovers and critics.
‘Art resides in the quality of doing, process is not magic’, said Charles Eames. Ensuring uncompromising standards, my photographs are printed on high quality cotton rag archival paper. The prints last for 125 years without fading. I use acrylic sheets to sandwich the photograph, shielded from dust and moisture. The frames are made of high quality synthetic fibre and are unbreakable. I choose them over wooden frames as I am a strong proponent of forest conservation.
